Best Workout Motivation Tips

If you struggle staying motivated, let’s break down some motivation tips to help you get dialed back in.

“How can I stay motivated to commit to my fitness journey?” is a type of question I get all the time.  Hell, even I have days where I am just not motivated at all.  It happens.  Things come up, schedules get busy, we get tired, we get lazy… it happens.  With that said, I wanted to share some tips that have helped me through my Body Beast mass-gaining journey and kept my mind focused and motivation high.  Hopefully these will help boost your flame, as well.

Here are 8 workout tips to keep you motivated:

Take it one step at a time –  Set small goals. Every huge goal out there is nothing more than the effect of consistently achieving smaller goals. If you have set the bar too high by setting goals that are too tough to reach, you’re setting yourself up to be disappointed. If you don’t achieve the goals you have set, you will become discouraged. When it comes to mass gaining and muscle building, set small goals each week to increase your reps by 2 or 3, or increase the weight by 5 or 10lbs on your last set. Small goals like this are achievable and noticeable, which will show your progress and help you stay motivated.

Don’t do this alone – This can be very tough, but if you are able to find a workout buddy, then you are in luck. You want to find someone who wants to achieve their mass-gaining goal just as much as you do. In order to become better, you must work with better people. Having a buddy makes it much harder for you to skip your workout because they will be there to hold you accountable. Let’s face it, there will be days where motivation will be low, so allow them to encourage and push you through those gloomy days. Get in the zone – Charge up that iPod or iPhone and have your music ready. Invest into some nice headphones. Personally, I have BEATS by DRE and I absolutely love them. Download some great motivation workout music, music that gets you pumped up and excited. Then, slap on those headphones, blast the volume, push play and get in the zone.  Some of my favorite workout music is rock/hip-hop. Some of my playlists are available on Spotify.

Find a role model – Who has the “perfect body” with the results you are striving to achieve? This is a great way to keep your goals fresh in your mind, and to remind you what you’re striving toward. Make sure that you choose someone deserving of your admiration, not someone who has unhealthy eating or exercise habits, or who has an impossible to achieve image.  Some of my biggest role models are Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Ben Pakulski, Sagi Kalev, and of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Say cheese and snap photos – A great way to stay motivated is to visually see your progress. You can do this by taking “before” photos, and updating your portfolio every week with new pictures. This will allow you to see your progression week after week. Also, this can be a great tool for you to see what areas of your body are reacting well to your workouts and which areas are weaker and might need a little more focus.

Write everything down – How do you know if your progressing if you aren’t recording your day to day progress? Invest in a notepad or use your phone to record notes of your progress. During each workout, take note of how many reps you did, what weight you used, what you felt was getting stronger, what you felt might have been weaker, and other reminders you can review after. This will help you dial into where you might need to make adjustments moving forward.

Surround yourself with positivity – First off, if you have negativity in your life, do your best to cut it loose. You want to surround yourself with people who share your same value and beliefs, and not those who are consistently trying to drag you down. Cut out all your toxins.  When you need additional motivation or positivity, look to reading or watching some videos. Doing some research and reading some of the best bodybuilding books by Arnold Schwarzenegger (for example), is a great way to fill your mind with the inspiration you need during this journey.

Find a workout you enjoy – Most importantly, do a workout program you look forward to doing everyday.  There is no faster way to lose all motivation by doing something you hate.  Find a workout you can have fun with and that will take you closer to your goals as quickly as possible.  Seeing progress and results is so important to keeping your driven and motivated to keep it going day after day.  For some of the best workouts packages that will hook you up with literally EVERYTHING you need, click here.
