Can I Add Arm Workouts with Hammer & Chisel?

Chris Balmert Arms

I started Hammer & Chisel about 3 weeks ago, and I am absolutely loving it!  The workouts are intense and to the point.  Most workouts range from 20-40 minutes, so you definitely get your work in quick, which is what I love about it.  Not much time to stand around, get bored, lose focus, etc.

After 3 weeks, I am down about 12lbs overall – however – even though I am losing weight, I still feel strong and I don’t seem to be losing any bulk, which is great! Since my body fat is dropping, my muscle cuts are actually deeper and my muscles appear “harder”, so that’s helping me look even bigger!  Win, win!

“Hey Chris, what about my arms?!”

I have noticed that during most Hammer & Chisel workouts, you are working the entire body.  Some workouts tend to work more of your lower body and back.  I feel they do this because your legs and back are HUGE muscle groups, and are the key muscle groups of your body, so working these muscles help burn more calories and overall effect other muscles throughout.  This is why I think you sweat so much during this workout and tend to see results quicker than most workouts.  Working larger, key muscle groups has a powerful effect of the entire body.  But don’t get me wrong, you still workout the other muscles groups, too – chest, arms, shoulders, core, etc!  It’s honestly a TOTAL BODY routine!

Now, with that said, many people have messaged me and asked if you can add additional arm workouts to Hammer and Chisel to help keep your arms growing.  In all honesty, I would highly recommend sticking to the Hammer & Chisel 100% since it is designed to be effective.  But, if you wanted to add additional arm routines to the workout, that’s your personal preference.  I will share some recommendations if that’s the route you want to take.

If your body can handle adding additional workouts, then go for it and double it up.

If you plan on adding additional workouts, make sure you aren’t over-working your muscles.  Don’t just do your Hammer & Chisel workout, then an arm workout everyday.  Switch up your secondary workout, whether its an addition chest routine, an additional arm routine, or an additional shoulder routine.  And most importantly, make sure you are still giving your body a rest day to recover.

When it comes to adding in an additional arm routine, I would recommend following a routine like Body Beast’s bulk arms.  That is one of my favorite workouts!  It’s short, sweet and to the point.  You’ll walk away from the workout with the feeling that your biceps and triceps are going to explode!  It’s the best feeling and a very effective routine to add into your mix.

Also, with Beachbody on Demand, you’ll have access to a few more great workouts that will target the arms – either from Body Beats Trainer (Sagi Kalev) or from Mr. P90X himself (Tony Horton).  You’ll be able to search these specific workouts and stream them right from your laptop, phone or smart TV.  This will make adding some additional and structured arm workouts easy… especially if you also plan on streaming your Hammer & Chisel workouts!
