P90X vs. Body Beast – Who Wins?

Now that I’ve completed Body Beast and have had P90X under my belt, people always ask me which program is better? I would be lying if I said one was better than the other. The truth is, they are both great programs. The real question is, which program is better for YOU?

When deciding which program you want to do, you need to first define your fitness goals. Do you want to gain mass and build muscle or do you want to use a program that incorporates strength training, cardio, core work, yoga and flexibility to stay lean and mean? If you are looking to gain mass and build some serious muscle fast, then you want to go with BODY BEAST.

I have to say that I am absolutely blown away and highly impressed of the structure of this workout. BODY BEAST definitely takes things to a whole new level. If you follow the program, you can pack on up to 20 pounds of muscle in 90 days. BODY BEAST was created by renowned bodybuilder Sagi Kalev. The program uses old school lifting techniques to make you big, while cutting fat to carve your physique like no other home training system! Sagi pushes you to the edge to get you pumped out of your mind.

Since the tempo of the workouts is so fast and you’re lifting some serious weight, the blood is constantly forced into the muscles and the muscle pump is always there! The feeling of this is incredible! I can’t remember the last time I finished a workout shaking, literally. The blood fills the muscles and the pump is insane! I am addicted! What do you need for Body Beast?  You will need a set of weights. I use the Bowflex SelectTech system. This allows me to increase my weight limit the more muscle I gain.  You will also need a pull up bar, and bench and a curl bar.

So, if you are looking for more of a strength training and cardio program, then you want P90X. You will get more of a varied workout using P90X since you will be mixing weights and cardio DVDs. Body Beast does offer very limited cardio, but P90X is the way to go if me beastyou really like to mix it up. P90X avoids the plateau effect by splitting the program into 3 different phases over the course of 90 days. P90X has three different schedules you can follow – Lean, Classic or Doubles. Most people stick to classic. Classic offers 50% cardio and 50% resistance. Lean will give you 75% cardio and 25% resistance training. Doubles is the toughest on the body, combining both cardio and resistance on the same days – double the work! Depending on how much stress your body can take, you might want to save doubles for round two or possibly round three!

What do you need for P90X?  You will need some dumbbell weights, a pullup bar, a yoga mat and resistance bands!

What’s the nutritional set up for the workouts?  Both programs, P90X and Body Beast have a full nutrition plan to follow throughout the program.  Since the P90X program is mostly for leaning out and building strong, lean muscle mass, the nutrition plan is a little more strict that Body Beast’s.  Body Beast is structured for HUGE GAINS and a lot of muscle fast, so the nutrition plan is still in depth, however, a little more lenient.
